If your car doesn't have the union on the head, but one of the multi outlets at the end of the inlet manifold, the hose positions are similar in that the upper most on the multi outlet goes to the lower pipe on the heater matrix, and the lower most on the multi outlet goes to the upper outlet on the heater.
You can see the hose pipe work on the pic that Mike attached in his post.
Obviously the hoses are different shapes depending on which carbs / inlet manifold etc you have, but the spares I have are pre shaped and it should be an indication where they fit. After market or cheap replacements may not be shaped and therefore won't help in their positioning.
I'd post a pic of mine, but I'm about 2,500 miles away from them at the moment.... :D

Definitely. I remember when I had a 2000 noticing the plug and wondering what it was for. and mighn't be a better take-off for one of the hoses attached to the notoriously corrosion-prone junctions at the end of the inlet manifold.

I have just looked at my 2500S engine and it does indeed have an outlet in place of the plug.

I'm in the process of sorting out my car spares, and keep noticing small differences between the engines. For example, the 2000 engine had a grease nipple on the water pump. the 2500 doesn't even have a plug.
The thermostat housing is different - the temperature sensor is after the thermostat on the 2000, but before on the 2500.

Ok, hope this makes sense !!
Hose from cylinder head fitting goes to bottom pipe on heater.
Hose from vertical piece on return pipe to water pump goes to top pipe on heater.
Hose from tee piece on above pipe goes to the rear pipe on inlet manifold.
Tony.
Sorry I can't seem to be able to load a bigger image.

Agreed! As I said previously - the top hose (whether that be on the cylinder head or the multi outlet on the inlet manifold) to the lower heater outlet, and the lower house on the return pipe to the top heater outlet!
