Fair enough, I had missed that.

Again,to be fair, it probably didn't. I seem to remember an article written by Alf and published over several issues of Six Appeal detailing the upgrades & modifications he carried out, and I did wonder why at the time, but Alf was Alf & it was his car!

Go for it Dave! You'll never rest until you get another PI!
It may even spur me on to get my white one up and running....

Sold for £8,000. Nice to see good examples are now getting respectable prices - not before time too, as they haven't been getting the recognition they deserve until latterly. Good news for owners, I guess, not for prospective buyers though!! Hope it's remained in the Register - will no doubt find out soon enough....

Seems strange. Starting bids of 5k, one bidder and it jumps straight to 8k. 4 bids, 1 bidder. Seems unlikely. Watch it return in a few days......

You are very synical Alan! Every possibility that the one bidder was entering bids until the reserve was met. You only need one interested buyer at the asking price to sell a car.

But eBay doesn't work like that. For the price to rise over 5000 it needs 2 bidders, not 1. Hence my suspicion

I was interested in buying a car on Ebay and when I saw it was local I went to see it. The price the guy wanted for it was a bit steep (£2600) as the bidding had stalled at about £400. Anyway, the auction ended and it never reached the reserve. The ad went back in and when you put a bid in it came back with 'you have been outbidded, please increase your max bid' and funnily enough it went up to exactly what he wanted, but the car was still at his door when I sneakily passed by over a month later. The winning bidder could be yourself or a friend making sure you don't 'give away' your car, on this occasion the winning bidder only had an Ebay score of 2 and could easily have been created to keep the bidding high. Although the winning bidder for Alf's car was quite high so only time will tell.
Ebay isn't all it appears, I definitely think theres a bit of jiggery pokery going on with some sellers, especially when the car appears next week because of a 'total time waster ' or 'guy has just been made redundant and can't now buy the car' excuse, I don't know if you are liable for charges when this happens, but if you aren't its definitely a loophole too many people are now using.
Ps the car I was interested the time in wasn't a Triumph (shame on me)

I'll stand corrected, but if there is only one bidder on an item that has a reserve, and the first bid was the starting price which is less than the reserve, then that bidder can submit any number of higher bids to try and get to the reserve figure. The additional bids will not show or increase UNTIL the reserve figure is reached or exceeded, and the bidding will then show as one bidder but the number of bids made upto and including the figure higher than the reserve. Hence, one bidder but four bids. If it wasn't a reserve auction, and it only had one bidder, then no matter how made bids were made by that one bidder, the bidding will remain at the starting price and my understanding is show as one bid.
Does that make sense?
I think that the auction for Alf's car was all legit.
Just my thoughts!

For those that queried the mileage readings on the MoTs, there is a simple explanation - the speedometer has been replaced. There is a sticker on the dash showing the mileage from the one that was replaced.

Did it sell to a Register member, does anyone know?
If not, hopefully a prospective member.
