Since removing and refitting my engine I have had a strange problem with my auto BW65.
When starting the car after sitting for a day or so it would not at first select the gear, after a delay it would work. I over filled it thinking it may be under filled and there was no change. I then went away for a month and on returning find the problem has disappeared. Any suggestions?

Re: Strange auto reaction
Possibly air in the system which bled itself out after a while?

Re: Strange auto reaction
I had the pleasure of delivering a Montego automatic back to it's owner after a gearbox rebuild many years ago. I went to pull out on a busy road and on letting the brake off it just rolled down the slope a bit but wouldn't go. Scared the life out of me but it was fine afterwards.
The garage I worked for took it back to the gearbox recon place but even after extensive test driving it didn't do anything strange again.
Are you supposed to operate the lever through all the gears to circulate the fluid properly after filling it ?

Yes that is correct, pausing in each gear stick location before moving to the next one. Going up and down.Steve G wrote:Are you supposed to operate the lever through all the gears to circulate the fluid properly after filling it ?

Perhaps need to expand on that a bit;
You must operate the lever through all the gears BEFORE checking the level.
If you check the level without doing that it will be seriously under filled.

Thanks chaps,
I remember now before I left the car for a month I had driven it and given it a good blow out in all gears selecting them manually. Problem solved.
