Yes, if you don't drive your Big Six regularly, they like to show their disapproval
The odometer is working for a few miles then slows and then stops, noticed by seeing what the trip is up to. Meanwhile, the speedometer is working perfectly!
Is it time to strip it down and give it a clean?
Odometer not working consistently...
Re: Odometer not working consistently...
With respect, not too sure if that's a good idea. I'd send mine to an instrument specialist, too many little bits in there for me.

Re: Odometer not working consistently...
We had similar with the estate Jim. Eventually the speedo cable snapped. When I looked the plastic covering on the outer cable had got hot, become brittle and fallen off allowing the inner cable to get wet and stick/rust. The new cable has cured (so far) the issues. Certainly cheaper to check this and possibly replace it, before sending the speedo away.

Re: Odometer not working consistently...
the oddometer is driven from a pawl and ratchet system and relies on the pawl moving freely but under the grip of a small cupped sprung washer arrangement , this gets dry and sticks , some even need gravity to operate certainly a simple clean and re lube the small pawl lever will generally make things work again
the hardest part is getting the rim to separate from the aged glued up rubber o ring which sticks the rim and glass to the case.
while its out the case add some lube to the input spindle , dont oil on the alloy disc driven plate and never take the needle off

Why I wonder? There are 2 tiny dots on the faceplate just right for re-alignment...pete lewis wrote:and never take the needle off
