Re: SAH rocker cover
I might be a bit dense at times, but can someone explain to me how fitting a cast rocker box can be a performance improvement over the the original pressed metal fitting? I know Syd Hurrell made a good business from his tuning parts, but I would have thought that this would have about as much performance benefit as chrome plating an original pressed cover, or maybe fitting a vinyl roof or painting a go-faster stripe along the side.
I do know on good authority that these did make a huge performance improvement to 1960s and 1970s cars

Re: SAH rocker cover
Hello Kevin,
I bought and fitted one many years ago (and it's still fitted) purely to minimise the rocker cover oil leaks of the original pressed steel cover. This it did so I am happy. I expect some people will say that the original, if fitted correctly, does not leak but to me it is a less than good bit of engineering being so flimsy.

Re: SAH rocker cover
I've still got the SAH catalogues from the mid 70's when I first got into the big saloons. I thought about getting an SAH rocker cover then but spent my money on other 'uprated' bits. Seeing these prices I wish I had bought one now!
I tend to agree with Alec about the better sealing and I think they do look nice - but not £550+ nice!
Cheers,
Mike.

Hello Mike,
I agree, current prices are really silly, however I forget what I paid for mine guessing maybe a tenth of that price on E-Bay?

Re: SAH rocker cover
They were £12 when new,the rocker covers are strong and look nice but over £500 is madness.
The prices will drop as they are all appearing out of the woodwork now.
What uprated parts did you get at the time Mike?

Re: SAH rocker cover
Gosh, it was so long ago, but I had a 357 CAM, valve springs and lightened CAM followers to go with it, 'extractor' exhaust manifold (6 in 2 into 1, not the modern type) and through exhaust, MU springs and other stuff I expect. It was nearly 40 years ago! Don't have the exhaust any more as it rusted away, but everything is around - somewhere!sahtuning2000 wrote:What uprated parts did you get at the time Mike?
Note - stuff to make the car go faster. Not much thought to stopping it more effectively!
Cheers,
Mike.
