Agreed,excellent article by Andy,looking forward to the part 2 alluded to. Particularly interesting note regarding the facelift estates. Wondered what the world total produced might be; presume the uk figures don't include ckd kits or vehicles produced in SA/OZ etc. now there's a challenge....!

I'm fairly sure all estates were English assembled . None built in New Zealand.

One interesting thing I did find in the production records for facelift PI Estate's.

Production started to tail off w/e 15/4/74 (only 7 cars built), finally finishing with 3 cars built w/e 13/5/74.

Only it didn't because in w/e 5/8/74 a sole example is shown being built. Strange that after nearly 3 months out of production they go to the trouble of building another.

By Royal Appoinment? Prince Phillips car?

Also noted in the records on the last day of production for saloon's on the 19 May 1977 (2000 ME29535, 2500TC MM39373, 2.5S MP10237) is the sarky comment,

'No Champagne For Workers' !

A sign of industrial relations in the Midlands in the 70's?

Fascinating info Dave - would you be able to bring some examples of the records to Stoneleigh, assuming you'll be there?

Facelift cars in 1973? Wasn't the market introduction early 1974?

I double-checked with my Best Man*: the bodies are stamped after Paint and after the doors are removed, in a way that doesn't damage the paint enough to cause corrosion. There are then a couple of VIN stickers and the tag you can see on the dash through the windscreen.

122547 if this is any help colin, build date 3.12.70 with dispatch 7.12.70

Have you done the heritage certificate for Frank? This may give you the accurate? dates taken from the build register
