Hi,
I was wondering it would be deemed wrong to convert a 2500S to a fuel injected system, similar to that offered by Prestige Developments & Injection? I have always liked the injection system and would be interested in peoples thoughts and recommendations.

Not at all, your car..... do what you want!!!
There will always be a purist somewhere...... you can't do that!!! Ignore, and enjoy!
Be aware, that you will also need to change the camshaft and distributor to suit, I think you will need a different fuel tank, plus all the pumps and fuel lines.
You might be better finding someone who is breaking a PI, and take everything, then set about reconditioning and fitting.

hi ian,
i converted my s estate many moons ago to a pi set up, hence my username.
you will need to change the tank as you will have a fuel return pipe to deal with.
go for it, but it will cost you a few bucks to do it

My early Mk1 2000 saloon I modified with period bits for historic rallying in 1990. After 25 years no point in undoing the mods (let alone the difficulty now) especially as they were (as far as possible) all period to the mid 1960s.
Woodie my RBRR Mk2 2500 estate is a converted 2000 and is very much modified.
However the Mk1 PI estate because it is such a very rare beast (only 7 or 8 survive out of the just couple of hundred made) I feel it would be inappropriate to modify it - and in fact I am going to great lengths to undo some of the inappropriate mods that were done to the car in its recent history so that it is a correct example of how it was made in 1969.
Converting an 'S' is not an issue because there are a reasonable number of saloons around. However note Alan's comments about upgrades required and sourcing parts. I personally use Neil Ferguson who is an ex Lucas PI engineer with loads of experience and able to refurb/upgrade anything of the original system - workmanship first class and prices are about the best around. He also has some parts.
Remember to keep the original stuff you take off in case you or a future owner wants to convert it back to original.

Thank you for all the responses and information, looks like i will be in the clear.
I concur ref modding a mk1 estate, there is one at Yorkshire Triumph that i would love but would never modify that particular car. it looks great in its original form (post some work)

Might you fall foul of the MOT emissions regulations if correctly applied? I thought PI was dropped as it wasn't clean enough? You might struggle to get an MOT on a late car with PI, if your MOT tester applies the rules correctly?

There should be no problems with MOT emissions testing - especially if pre August 1975 as it is a visual inspection only which would cover a month or so of an 'S' PI conversion.
For the couple of years of production after this date, although there is a need for emissions to be tested with a gas analyser the requirements are much lower than today and provided the PI system is in good condition and properly set up it should get through. I believe the reason for the change to carbs in the 'S' as far as emissions were concerned was as much to do with the tighter regulations in the American market as anything.
