Exhaust manifold - is it interchangeable?

#1 Post by SimonO » Wed Oct 15, 2014 7:54 am

My slow rebuild of the 2000 continues and will be imminently going to be welded and painted - so thoughts are now turning to the naff engine (underpowered and struggles at about 60mph, although revs and sounds fine - carbs rebuilt with new HT leads, spark plugs, red arm, fuel pump, coil etc etc).

I'm agonising over rebuilding the current 2l or moving to a 2.5l lump. I probably want the revvy 2l for now but may have a 2.5 lump built instead. The howl of the blue 2000 on the RBRR was fantastic...

Whilst the car is away I continue to amass car parts (ready for fitting in the Spring) and I'm thinking of getting the exhaust and manifold ordered. Can someone confirm if the Witor 6-3-1 manifold and Sports exhaust fit both the 2l and 2.5l engines??? That way I can buy in confidence of it'll work whatever I decide to do with the engine...

Ask Chris himself - he'll give you an honest answer and probably some tips as well.

Short answer yes, but there are two different ones I think for different linkage types.
Talk to Chris directly, he will guide you.

Two types of manifold as I understand it, mk1 narrow head type and mk1 pi/all mk2s full width head type.
Exhaust is either mk2 saloon or mk1 and all estates. It's a length thing. Then you have to agonise over bore size and a box in the middle or just the rear box.
Linkages is only if you are using after market stuff on pi equipped engines.

Good luck if you are trying to immitate the blue 2000 on the RBRR as I think you are talking about Nigel Gair's car (PLL). Lots of time, lots of money and lots of bespoke parts and work have gone into that car, I believe he has been 'tweaking' it for over two decades.
