Aftermarket tachmoeter/rev counter
I have a PFL Mk2 without a rev counter - but would like to install one.
I am considering either swapping the dash for a later 2500 one or putting an aftermarket rev counter (pod thing) on the dash.
Anyone recommend/used an aftermarket unit???

If you can get a PFL 2500 dash, that would be the easier way, as everything springs to life as it should without any wiring harness mods, all the necessary wiring is already installed.

Re: Aftermarket tachmoeter/rev counter
have you got a radio or just the plastic panel? I haven't got a radio so I used a TIM rev counter and oil gauge and fitted them in the plastic panel.

Bit out of line of sight there. Mind you don't run up someone's chuff whilst checking your oil pressurered2000chris wrote:fitted them in the plastic panel.

Re: Aftermarket tachmoeter/rev counter
I like Dave B's suggestion of fitting a PFL 2500 dash. Can they be easily distinguished - loads come up on eBay but I never know what they are!
Re: Aftermarket tachmoeter/rev counter
Pointed sword shaped needles, black bezels and a chrome 'button' in the centre of the dial. fl dials have square needles and black bezels with a chrome outer edge. The dash will also have a rheostat for the dial illumination on pfl, fl has a rectangular seatbelt warning light and hazard warning light switch.SimonO wrote:I like Dave B's suggestion of fitting a PFL 2500 dash. Only four years later...
I have fitted a PFL Mk2 PI dash into my 1972 2000 - just in time for the RBRR.
However the one on the dash doesn't work correctly. I believe it's due to me having the 123 electronic ignition fitted and my rev counter is the RVI type.
Can anyone recommend a place to convert my current dial to RVC, or is there a "plug-in and play" alternative (I would like the dials to match if possible)
I realise that the wiring will need to be converted too....

Your tachmoeter is connected to the ignition coil's positive terminal?SimonO wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 12:31 pmOnly four years later...

I got one of these to work on a Dolomite with 123 ignition, with the existing wiring, by bypassing the ballast resistor
and then running a new separate feed to the 123 distributor (from the fusebox inlet side).
(on a standard early Dolomite a tachometer failure results in no ignition,
doing the above means that should such a tachometer failure occur the car will still run.)
Ian.
PS I saw your car at John o' Groats on the RBRR!
