From his postings he needs a boot full for every outingMike Stevens wrote:I also wonder if some of the old ones leak. They are supposed to be sealed beam, but if air can get in it will burn out the filament pretty quickly. I too have seen a blue colour appearing on the glass sometimes.
Jim, do you still want some more from me next month?
Cheers,

I fear it was just Sod's Law in action... I've never touched the left outer unit and the connector and incoming wires were fine, with no signs of burning.CRAJ wrote:I think Lee has a possible answer there.englishbull wrote:Had this on the estate would fit and try and all fine but put all trim back on and one would blow.
Found out it was the pin socket not.connecting correctly or at least that cured.the issue
A loose connection on one pin would cause a heat build up and could lead to a blown lamp, or worse still a small fire. It's worth checking if you need to change a lamp or Halogen filament lamp.

Yes Mike, the lamp was indeed blooming at the top so I guess the vacuum had been lost over a short time.Mike Stevens wrote:I also wonder if some of the old ones leak. Perhaps carry a torch with a magnet attached to it for emergencies?

I'm sure 'blooming' wasn't the only word you used to describe the blown ones!

Re: Wanted: main/dip sealed beam units
At least our cars don't BSOD. Our modern car has a radio (for want of a better word as it also plays CDs, DVDs, MP3s and has a built it in satnav) that is based on Windows Mobile. If I was to put that into the 2000, I'd have the best of everything. Lucas electricals and Microsoft software. What could possibly go wrong?

No problem. You just stop at the side of the road, give it the 3-fingered salute, reboot and carry on. That's what we do with our PCs after all...kevinw wrote:Lucas electricals and Microsoft software. What could possibly go wrong?
