Hi Everyone,
Please can I ask for some advice?
My 2000 is having some welding done on the os sill. The welder has asked me to find out if there should be a strengthen/middle sill that is L shaped?
The car has been in the family since new in 1972 and I’m determined to keep it going!
Many thanks, Rita.
Middle Sill?
Re: Middle Sill?
Hi Rita, the sill construction on all the 2000 / 2500 were three sections - outer, middle ( strengthener) and the inner.
In the past, when the sills were rotten, bodge repairers only usually slapped a cover sill over the rusted outer sill, welded plates on the inner sill, but did nothing to repair or replace the strengthener. The sills form an important part of the strength of the Triumphs body, so all sill repairs should be done properly with all sections repaired/ replaced, and the body 'jigged' ideally to stop any twisting of the body when the old sills are removed.
There is a genuine right hand strengthener on Ebay at the moment being sold by Richard Symonds who has been involved in Triumphs for many years. Some pics for your and your repairers info.

Re: Middle Sill?
Hi Johnnydog, thank you so much for such a comprehensive reply. I really am grateful.
I’ll be in touch with him asap as he had planned on fabricating a middle sill.
He said he would do it in sections after putting a jig in the door panel - I think I’ve got that right!
Thank you again , your knowledge and advice is so appreciated.
Kind regards, Rita

Re: Middle Sill?
The middle sill can be repaired by fabricating repair panels in bits. Be aware that the 'horizontal' part of it (which ends up being the bottom of the sill) is wider at the front than at the back. I've just finished the O/S sill on my Mk2 PI and ended up repairing the middle sill in sections, probably about 6 or 7. Note that these are repair sections and are 'tall' enough to reach good bits of the original middle sill.
I hope I've managed to attach some pictures!
Hmm, I wonder why only 1 picture is available? Still, you can see the general idea.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Middle Sill?
I've had this issue previously Mike when trying to upload several pictures in one go - if you don't get your skates on placing them in line, you loose the first ones you are trying to upload with the message they are no longer available. If you just try one or two it's OK. Maybe just me - being a technophobe but maybe something one of the Register IT experts can look into?

Being the forum admin I ought to know - but I don't! Your comment about time is interesting - I shall go and look at the settings, there may be something in there that needs addressing.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Middle Sill?
Well, I've found out how to add the 'orphaned' attachments to the post after the post is submitted, but it is a bit manual. I can't see any time limit on adding more than 1 attachment though.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Middle Sill?
Thank you everyone for all of your help and advice.
I've bought the middle sill from Richard, he has been so kind and helpful. I'm hoping it'll be fitted soon.
Many thanks for the photos Mike.
Kind regards, Rita.
