Wing mirrors
My Mk1 and the early Mk2 PI I grew up with never had any other mirror other than the rear view mirror inside the car! I now use a period 'clip on' mirror on the chrome upright of the door 1/4 light to drop glass. I total nightmare driving without a drivers door mirror these days!

Re: Wing mirrors
Funny how some like the wing mirrors and some like the door mirrors, personally I prefer the door mirrors but the project I bought came with neither so i’ll be after a pair soon so if anyone has a pair please let me know (1973 mk 2)

Re: Wing mirrors
Regarding door mirrors, Tex were the original manufacturer of them, but I have found the original ones from the 70's are far superior to the 'new' ones manufactured today, especially where the mirror head swivels on the base. The current ones seem to work slack very quickly and 'at speed' , the head can move due to the air pressure. The old ones can be tightened with the screw fixing inside the head with the glass removed, whereas the later ones can't be tightened as the mounting of the head to the base isn't adjustable.
The two are easily identifiable - the older ones have a curved profile to the forward most part of the base (opposite side to the securing grub screw), whereas on the newer ones, the profile of the same section is straight. The new ones also have two securing screws in the base of the head either side of the mounting to the base, which the older ones don't have.
Worth, in my opinion, trying to find a good used pair or some 'new old stock' of the older variety. Plus, for those with a keen eye, the later ones aren't 'original'.
Finding good used with unblemished bases is the other problem, as the 'monkey metal' and chrome finish becomes pitted with age, and the grub screw seizes if not kept lubricated.

Re: Wing mirrors
So the mini ones are the same as ones for a Triumph yes?
Re: Wing mirrors
Yes, they are the same, but the mounting position on the original classic Mini is vertical, so the Mini has an angled spacer block between the door panel and the base so that the mirror head is in the correct position. The door on the 2000 is not a vertical plane where the mirror is positioned, so the spacer isn't needed - just the plastic gasket between the base and the metalwork.
Same mirror was fitted to mamy British Leyland cars of the same period, including the MGB, Allegro Maxi etc etc.
Incidentally, the newer type are supplied with a selection of plastic gaskets - the Triumph requires the thinnest one in the packet to match the profile of the door skin.
