PI Rostyle wheel trims

#1 Post by johnnydog » Mon May 04, 2020 10:32 am

Whilst keeping myself busy during this period of 'staying at home', I came across a selection of 'nos' rostyle wheel trims - all 13" (with a round valve hole so definitely not Stag). However, I there was a difference in the depth of the retaining 'dish' on the rear (the part that is rivited through the dummy wheel nuts and clips onto the wheel rim to hold the trim on). The depth varied between 5/8", 1" and 1 1/4".
By a process of elimination, the 1" depth trims are for the Mk2 PI, but I am uncertain which cars the 5/8" and the 1 1/4" may fit. They have a hole in the centre for the badge - I believe the Vitesse or GT6 didn't have a centre badge and therefore didn't have a hole, but I'm a bit puzzled as to what the other two are for. I know the offset of a Mk1 rim is different to a Mk2 so maybe one is for a Mk1 PI...???
Any thoughts?

So that's why some of my trims used to stand away from the wheel rim all those years ago when I had a PI !!!
Is that a trade in at johnnydog motors in the background
BTW I think certain Bond Equipe models had rostyles, but probably used Vitesse/Herald wheels?

I too recollect in the past seeing some Triumphs with their wheel trims standing away from the edge of the wheel rim but I can't now remember which model or wheel trim it was....I vaguely recollect it may have been Mk2 trims on Mk1 rims, as it wouldn't have been Mk1 hub caps on a Mk2....... but I could be wrong......🤷‍♂️
As the local vehicle recycling facilities are shut, someone must have dumped it on the drive Dave.... scoundrels....
