The Triumph 2000/2500/2.5 Register Forum

Right I’ve had a cup of tea and looked at the cost of a new lining from a certain well known Triumph spares retailer and decided I didn’t want to pay £120 or so for another one so I’d better just fit one I’ve already got!

On the basis of having little to lose at this point, I pulled the headlining harder than seemed reasonable until it reach the rear window frame an put a clamp on it then I carried on pulling and put a few more on...

Then I used a little tool I made to pull the rails back until they were upright!

I left it like that for today under tension to see if it settles down...with a view to gluing it along to top of the rear window tomorrow.

Cup of tea always helps, looking good jake! Your definitely working with minimum tolerances with your material but it’s worth going for the save. Have you still got material at the front? When fitting mine I started by using double sided tape, this was folly in the end we just took the plunge and glued. If it’s tight and as you have plenty of clamps maybe a bit of wood thin enough to bend will help to hold whilst the glue goes off and I would definitely leave it overnight.

I’ve never had to do a head lining myself, but would the heat from something like a hair dryer or similar help to ‘relax’ the fabric at all? It can’t be ideal in current temperatures unless your garage is centrally heated.

Had a couple of heaters on all night before and the whole day I think that helped (got up about 15 degrees) boiling hot by my winter workshop standards
I'll post some more when I've made a bit more progress. Set myself a challenge to get it done, screens fitted etc by the end of the month....

This is definitely one of those "thank god I red that on the forum" threads. I took the headlining out of my car last year to make a new one and haven't put it back yet and when I took it out I didn't bother to record where the rails went. Luckily my roof is slightly simplified in this respect as I have a pop-up sunroof so only have to work out where 3 rails go rather than all 5.
Anyway for the record I have brown or possibly black (very faint), orange and purple splodges looks to tally with the back 3 rails as I would expect.

Update on the Headlining, now fitted! I'm reasonable pleased with the results, especially as it seemed a bit mission impossible at one point!
