Protective tape removal from NOS bumpers
As the title suggests, I am about to fit a new old stock rear bumper to my PI. It is covered with the original woven protective tape, which is proving to be a right bas***d to remove. The outer fabric has more or less come off, but it is the black coloured adhesive that is being very stubborn. Upto now I have tried white spirit, petrol, carb cleaner and a 'non sticky sticky stuff' remover but to no avail.
I am going to try thinners this evening.
Anyone any ideas, or has experience of successfully removing it relatively easily with any particular solvent?
It's delaying me getting the PI finished for the National!!!!

Re: Protective tape removal from NOS bumpers
Try multi purpose thinners from Lidl. Amazing stuff. Thinners is the way to go, but the Lidl stuff appears to be a bit stronger if the stuff you have proves not hugely successful.

Without a doubt,Celly thinners will shift it, put plenty on a rough cloth and go for it.Watch your skin though, don't wear disposable gloves our they will dissolve on contact.Thick orange/brown gloves will work.

Re: Protective tape removal from NOS bumpers
They have it in every now and again. I usually buy one when they are about if I don't have a full one. As always with Lidl, there is no rhyme or reason as to what is stocked when!

Re: Protective tape removal from NOS bumpers
Thanks for the info - thinners did the trick. A bit (well, a lot really!) of elbow grease combined with a coarse cloth, and it came off.
A nice shiney chrome bumper now!
