Hello,
Preparing a repainting job on my mk1, I tried to know which was the coating system in 1966 on these cars to know if I can respray on it without risks.
Was it already some polyurethane coating or cellulosic ?
Thanks
Fabien

Fabien,it would definitely have been cellulose originally. Be aware that if it has been repainted at sometime in it's life, that it was once again cellulose.I have seen the effects, in the seventies, of a 1965 Ford, which was originally cellulose, having been resprayed in Acrylic, which worked fine.Only problem was, when it came to be painted AGAIN,the customer did not mention this fact, and when it was repainted(are you keeping up?,I'm struggling!)it was done in original cellulose. This when curing gave the car a wonderful "crazy paving "effect.
So,the point I was trying to make, get the paint checked if you are not sure.
Good Luck,
Bill.

Re: 2000 MK1 1966 Coat system
I had a similar experience to that described by Wild Bill.
I bought a 1965 Royal Blue T2000 in early 1970 and re-sprayed it in 1972 so as to freshen the bodywork shortly after selling it to my Dad. I used cellulose paint as I knew that was what the factory applied and I didn't consider that it may have already been re-sprayed in acrylic paint before I bought it.
I can't tell you how sick I felt when the paint crazed all over, especially as Dad had given me more than the car was worth so as to enable my purchase of a Mk2, and a re-spray hadn't been essential anyway.

Hi guys,
Thank you for your answers.
Then I have exactly the same ! The car have already been resprayed with a thin PU coat.
I would like to respray with 1K coat and 2K PU varnish but I worried about the reaction of the cellulose under...
