Following on from my post in Radio mount.
My Father in law has now finished reveneering the wood in my 2500s Estate. Having been left for a number of years the lacquer had blown and in laces even the veneer itself had lifted. I've never liked the burr walnut look feeling it is an older finish than the car so i bought some Iron on Teak Veneer.
We modified the centre console to fit a modern Car radio. i spent this afternoon refitting the new wood to the car.

Re: New Woodwork
Hi Tony
I bought it from ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142030215604? ... EBIDX%3AIT
or if the link doesn't work. eBay item number:142030215604
I bought three lengths but you would only need two to do the whole car. it is possible to do the two doors and the loading bay area out of one piece so the grain follows on.
The hardest part was the dash its self with the curve, then cutting the circles was tricky you will need a very sharp modelling knife and remember the dials do not overlap so won't hide any slight error in the cutting.
I imagine you are starting to realize why I got my father in law to do it.
I also didn't want the finish to be too glossy so thought Teak Oil would be the way to go. I was very disappointed as it left the wood looking dull and flat. a clear lacquer brought the honey glow to the wood i used a satin finish. it takes an age waiting for coats to dry before applying the next but don't rush it.

Re: New Woodwork
hi phil,
many thanks for that
my dash is in great condition, so only the door caps need doing. i have spoken to the guy on ebay and i am sending him the heater control surround as a sample so he can match it up with a bit of luck?
it sounds like a job for the winter unless your father in law wants a trip to south cheshire
thanks again, regards, tony.
