Seats leather/vinyl Mark1/2

Some advice please for my newly acquired 1969 Mk1 2.5PI ... JPP 14G ... will seats from a mark 2 fit in a mark 1? I have located some black vinyl ones with headrests on the front two, which I guess are MK2. Or alternatively I am thinking of repairing and restoring cracked and torn black leather on the originals - where to get that done in the SW England? Thanks.

Mk2 seats (headrest type or non headrest) will fit a Mk1. The headrest type were facelift Mk2 seats from 1974 on. Purists will pull their face though as they will stand out as not being Mk1 seats!!!!
Repairing the original leather seats would be the best solution; if it's just the stitching that's perished then that isn't a problem as long as the leather is still quite supple and not hard. If the leather is torn or damaged you will not find an identical leather to repair them - the diamond pattern has not been available for a long time. Best bet is to buy a good used set, but be prepared to have a long search and to pay good money for them!

Firstly, Andy Harrison (Devon Group Leader in the Triumph 2000 Register) maybe your first point of contact as he has a good supply of used parts.......but don't hold your breath!
Secondly, if you join the Register  you may find useful contacts in the Club to help in your search.

Alternatively, you could sell me your car and save yourself the hassle.....!!!!! :D

As its a Valencia PI, I could get away with it (!?!?!)....she wouldn't really notice the difference between my Mk2 2000 and a Mk1 PI - would she???
I could always use the 'female get out' as with a new pair of shoes or outfit....I've had it ages my dear - you definitely have seen it before!!
Unless you grass me up Charles!!!

Getting good Mk1 PI leather seats are little more than impossible (hen's teeth are more common) - though you might possibly get reasonable passenger ones.

I bought NOS passenger ones a few years ago for the Mk1 PI estate that apart from the diaphragms which are available from CW (Chris Witor if you are a newbe :) ) have perfect leather. I am going to get an upholsterer to look at the NOS passenger one and the knackered drivers one with a view to making one good drivers one from that lot.

Being realistic you either get a decent s/h MK2 plastic seat or get your old leather one recovered in modern material and simply have to put up with the wrong pattern in the leather.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful. I have joined the register so will keep my eyes peeled, but it sounds like they are in short supply and have high demand. I do favour retaining the existing and repairing/refurbishing. I like the originality of them and vinyl does not compare. I am really pleased to be owning a Triumph again after previously driving a Herald and a Vitesse, back in the twentieth century.

@johnydog I wasn't thinking of "flipping" JPP 14G so soon but its good to know there is demand out there for the whole vehicle and not just the seats. Looking forward to some better weather and getting out to some meetings in 2017. If I ever get the car as far as Lancashire I will call in when Paula's out and you can make me an offer for it. :)
