door locks

#1 Post by peewee21 » Mon Jan 12, 2015 8:25 pm

Hi All,

On my MK1 both rear doors can be pulled opened without depressing the button, on examination it appears that the locking cog and rotate both ways at certain degrees. Also on these locks pushing the knob down to lock, you can open the doors with the external button.

Both front doors work perfectly

can this be rectified or will replacements be required?

Kind regards
Ian

Hello Ian,

I also have the same problem with one of my rear doors but have yet to investigate (the car is not currently on the road).

I anticipate that a strip down of the lock mechanism and a clean and lubricate will cure it. Certainly worth a try. I think that will sort out both problems.

I had this problem when I bought my car, so I stripped apart the door apart to access the mechanism, took out the lock and then discovered it was just gummed up with old Waxoyl and only needed a squirt of WD40 which I could have done without dismantling the door!
