Cooling system fan(s)

#1 Post by torque2me » Mon Aug 24, 2020 10:32 am

Hi Groupies,

My Pacet thermo fan/system has stopped working. My guess would be water in the motor.

Looked up Pacet but they were taken-over by Kenlowe in 2014. Kenlowe's web site states they only do electric and only sell to manufacturers and specialists.

So, has anyone else had their fan fail and had to replace by a similar or electric? The electric seem to be heavy on amps but I dare say that somethin might be available whereby it starts/cuts in when a certain set temp is reached.

GDAY
I don't know why no'one has replied to this. youv'e probably fixed this anyway but FWIW:
The first thing I do when I get a new project is to ditch the original engine driven fan (in this case on my2500S a viscous coupled unit which had seized anyway went straight in the bin)
I then removed the old plumbing to the inlet manifold (not needed here in OZ IMHO) and rerouted the heater pipes. The whole thing had been "modified" (read butchered) by some PO anyway and needed fettling.
A plug then blocks the outlet from the water pump.
The attachment Blanking plug.JPG is no longer available
A new sensor Boss was then soldered into the top tank of the radiator to accomodate the new 85 degree sensor (Normally Open) which drives a relay to run the fan

A new aftermarket 16inch 80 watt fan was then fitted in front of the radiator. these are absurdly cheap BTW.
Works like a charm

for some reason the web site dropped the pic of the sensor mod to the radiator

Hello Torque2me,

with respect to the current draw, my experience over very many years is that my fan doesn't switch in except for the rarest of occasions. I don't have an engine driven fan by the way. It is not a cure for a poorly performing cooling system however.

Kenlowe are not far away from me, they certainly sell to the public if you visit them and they're incredibly helpful...

... Always worth making a phone call
