We took Rusty Custard out for a blast yesterday, started using the rev band properly. At high revs in the intermediate gears, the engine stutters. From previous experience we reckon that it’s fuel starvation.
This is where I need your help. The car has the ‘metal top’ mechanical fuel pump used on late Mk1 2000s (pn 213577)
As the engine is now a 2500 in full 2500S trim, I’m wondering whether the pump that we have is up to the job in terms of fuel delivery. By rights this engine should have the later glass topped pump (pn 216559).
My question is, does anyone know what the fuel delivery rates are for the two pumps please.
I am loath to buy a later pump if it doesn’t increase the fuel delivery.

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Differences
Aren't there two different kinds depending on camshaft - the lever engages with the camshaft in a different way, I thought?
Also gasket thickness alters the movement of the lever surely?

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Differences
The only differences in their operation that I know of is the angle of the operating lever on the earlier Mk1. The glass topped ones also have the inlet and outlet ports in a 180 degree line whereas some metal topped pumps the inlet and outlet ports are at a (approx) 135 degree line, and have a different inlet connection pipe / hose, but are interchangeable. All later pumps whether Mk1 or Mk2 with the sharper angle of operating lever (not the priming lever on the front) have the same delivery of fuel I believe, whether glass bowl or metal top, and are interchangable.

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Differences
Had this problem for years on my rally car. Carbs rebuilt, re stripped, fuel pump the same. Sorted it in the end. Change the plugs to Iridium Denso ones. Yes really! Only took me about 7 years to sort it!
