Hi all,
Does anyone have any recommendations to get more of a 'note' out of a stock exhaust. I think it's MK2 exhaust that has been modified to fit a MK1 manifold. Considering removing one of the silencers or even both stock ones and adding a straight through silencer.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
P.s I'm still at school so the budget is severely low!

Re: Exhaust Recommendations
The best exhaust is a sport or semi sport from Chris Witor, however, that isn't really an option for a very limited budget. Those systems remove one (semi) or both silencers in the middle section leaving just a large rear box. The rear tail pipe is a much larger diameter than the original 'pea shooter' which restricts the gas flow. You could look into getting another silencer on the back with the correct diameter to join the input pipe and with an output pipe the same diameter, and look into cutting out one or both middle boxes and replacing with plain pipe. IF you are really lucky, you may find some CW exhaust sections second hand! The CW sport (no silencers) centre section new is only £37 plus VAT! Good luck.

Re: Exhaust Recommendations
I personally would go for a Sport System for the Mk1 2000 in stainless from Chris Witor. As Charles says, apart from the narrow flange for the Mk1 manifold, the bore is greater than the standard exhaust; he describes it as a 1 5/8" step up front pipe, 1 7/8" centre (with no silencer), and the swept up rear pipe with a silencer with rolled exit pipe. Having had Chris' exhausts previously, they are good quality, fit first time, and the exhaust sound is a distinctive Triumph 6 cylinder note, not too loud, but a pleasant improvement over the standard exhaust. They are also made from 304 stainless which means they don't rust - 409 stainless has a degree of mild steel in them which rusts on the surface, albeit to a far lesser degree than the standard mild steel systems.
His sytems are £250 + vat and then delivery on top, so you are looking at £300 + delivery - well worth it, but if you are on a tight budget.....

Re: Exhaust Recommendations
Thanks Charles and Johnny for the responses. I'd consider getting a Chris Witor Sports Exhaust at some point in the future. For now I'll try and cobble something together from the existing exhaust.
