Heater water pipes

#1 Post by Baller » Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:01 pm

Anybody able to give me clarification on where the water pipes go from the heater on my 68 [facelift] 2000 , when I bought my resto project there were no hoses on it at all , been trying to find some engine bay pics with no real success , there is three outlets on the end of the inlet manifold and also the steel pipe from the water pump , thanks.

I could probably take some pics, but basicly one side of heater has a hose that fits to the connection on the back of the cylinder head . the other side goes on the pipe that runs under the manifold and back to the water pump. the other outlet on this pipe goes to the manifold to circulate water through it.
Hope this makes some sense.

Am I right in thinking you may have a mk2 ? , I have no connection on the back of the cylinder head, just a three way connection on the end of the manifold + the pipe going to the water pump

Sorry, yes mine is a Mk2. I have no knowledge of Mk 1's.

This topic has been on here previously, and the final concencus was that theoretically it shouldn't make a lot of difference. The connecting hose to the water transfer pipe behind the manifold is the lower outlet on the union. That connection should be quite obvious (assuming you are fitting the correct pipe as MK 1 and very very early MK 2 are the same). The higher outlet hole on the heater matrix goes to the lower remaining outlet on the inlet manifold union, and the lower outlet hole on the heater matrix goes to the highest remaining outlet - if that makes sense?

There's a diagram in Haynes on p 51 - is that the one?

Thankyou Johnnydog that makes perfect sense , I couldn't see how it would work if it was off the same union , but any other way you would be joining two outlets up on the three way union.
