I never have had cold starting problems with the Triumphs - I just find it beneficial from the oil pressure point of view, not for the fuel supply, to turn the engine over for a few seconds before pulling out the choke.
On some of my previous Triumphs, if I didn't start them this way, they would fire almost immediately, even after a period of inactivity, but then the dreaded crank rumble could be heard until the oil light extinguished. To significantly reduce the length of this rumble, a short period of 'churning' almost eliminated it as the oil light would then extinguish very quickly.
Thankfully, my present Triumphs don't have the same degree of crank wear as some of my previous cars!
