Oil dipstick tube position for 2500cc engine (1968) ?

Is there any way to reposition exactly correctly oil dipstick tube that got removed during engine rebuild?
I have no other engine block available for comparison. Regardless of correct oil fill volume oil level is too high according to the oil dipstick that goes too deep into the bore on side of engine block. So, tube hight is incorrect now. I am not in UK.

(Wrote it here because FB gets filled up with new conversations too fast.)
Thanks
J

I'm sure someone will be along soon who can measure the height of their dipstick tube above the block! I would if I was nearer my cars, but unfortunately (or fortunately, whichever way you look at it!) I am away and can't get to them to do it for you, sorry 8)

On my mk2 2000, and also a spare 2500S unit I have, the top of the dipstick tube is 4.460" from the block in both cases. Four and a half inches should be near enough!
That is assuming mk1 & mk2 engines are the same in that respect.

I've just measured my two engines:

2500 - 5"
2000 - 4.5"

That's from the top of the tube to the top of the casting on the block.
But the two are not quite the same design. The 2000 just has a plain tube fitting into a hole in the block, presumably adjustable up or own. The 2500 tube has a flange at the bottom like a button about 1" diameter, so it's depth is preset by the design.

Would the height difference be to compensate for the slight extra tilt of the 2500 to accommodate the SU carbs, which would send more oil to the lefthand side?

Strange, that, as the BL parts book lists the dipstick tube as 127652 for both 2000 & 2500 (mk2) engines which would seem to confirm the measurements I took from two of my three engines. The tube also looks to have a stepped diameter so it would only go so far into the block. I've never had one out so I can't confirm this.
Also, what I never knew was that there are two different dipsticks 139188 (2000) and 146204 (2500) also two different sump pans 308570 (2000) and 307834 (2500). Exactly what the differences are, I can't tell you at the moment.

The engine block type was used in Triumph 2.5Pi (mk1) and TR5 (Pi).
I'll try if I can still find identical engine block for comparison. Have to check also if there are chances that oil dip stick has any part that could have moved itself.
Thanks for your help so far,
J

Dave,

The 2500 sump is deeper than the 2000 one to allow for the greater big end throw. Due to that, the 2500 dipstick is longer to allow for the oil level being lower relative to the block/sump pan face!

I would have thought that the dipstick tube would be the same length for both 2000 and 2500 blocks. Actually, I believe that 2000 and 2500 blocks were the same anyway, certainly Mk2 ones. The differences therefore being taken up with by the length of the dipstick.

Cheers,
Mike.

Found an unused 2000 Mk2 spare part bare block, but unluckily it lacks the oil dipstick tube.

The two different sumps for the 2000 I think will just be the early with no surge plates/gauze etc and the later with

Hi again.

It would help the comparison if somebody would measure the distance from oil dipstick felt washer cap to FULL mark and to LOW mark. Engine must be 2500 mk1 Pi, because there are differences in how much engine was canted in different models. (2.5Pi mk1, TR5Pi, TR6, 2500S, ... )

I will check the details when I eventually get to the project car.

Thanks,
J
