Spin-on oil filters in Oz

Just wondering if any Oz-based owners have any suggestions for locally-sourced oil filters for the Chris Wittor-supplied spin-on adapter?

Chris advised that they are of Toyota origin e.g. Coopers Z 48, or Mann W723/3. I think I can buy the Coopers Z48 online but haven't found a local Mann W723/3 yet (albeit through a very quick search).

What do others use?

I've got a UFI oil filter, filter code 23.138.00, which is an equivalent to the Manner W723/3 etc. Obviously I'm not in Australia, but it's another part number to try. Looking at the list of what it's supposed to fit it seems to be mostly tractors and plant fitted with Perkins diesels.

I used to work in the drawing office at Perkins Engines and had access to filter sizing calculations etc. In the 1980's I researched spin-on filters for use with the CW adaptor, taking into account flow resistance and filtration performance etc.

Quite coincidentally, I found one of our own-branded filters to be the ideal. That was Perkins number 2654408, but they were relatively expensive to buy from dealers. Perkins had a policy of not selling to employees (to avoid the possibility of theft cover-up) but very kindly allowed me to buy a box of 20 for about 25% of the normal retail price. I renewed them at every other oil change and unfortunately they have now all gone.

2654408 is 6" long x 3" diameter (150mm x 75mm). Though more expensive than the smaller and rather inadequate ones often listed for our engines, the larger element means that it's not imperative to change it with every oil change, and alternate changing effectively halves the cost. (We found at Perkins that filtration performance improves once the element has been in use for a while and were happy with filters being changed at every alternate oil change other than in exceptional cases). Equivalents to 2654408 should be fine so long as they are a known make.

Don't know if Fram filters are available in Oz? If so part no PH2895 (not PH2895A).

Agreed. Fram were the makers of the Perkins filter at the time I spoke of, and the number PH2895 is distantly familiar.

Here's a useful cross-reference: http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com ... ram/PH2895

Not sure if the Rimmer Bros adapter is the same as the Witor model, but they supplied me with TJ QFL0099/Wix WL7074 which apparantly fits a whole host of vehicles http://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com ... Wix/WL7074

Triumph parts suppliers fall into two categories - those who can be trusted to supply suitable parts and those who can't.

Going back to the original enquiry, the Australian filter Ryko Z37 can be added to the list of alternatives to the Fram PH2895.

I've used Ryco Z103 for years now. Long filter. However they're getting scarce now and a bit expensive.
Now using Z131A. Same size and readily available from Super Cheap Auto. (well in N.Z. they are)
