Had this once. It was the pressure relief valve stuck open. If you have refitted the valve, see if you get an oil supply again. If not, it is starting to point at an oil pump failure which is rare.

Took off pressure relief valve & spun engine over no oil came out looks like oil pump then? Can you drop sump without taking engine out?

yes support car on stands and drop the suspension crossmember , pull it down as low as it will go
need to release steering coupling from rack and remove dipstick and look out for any brake pipe clips

and sump is then removable on car.

All sorted now thanks ordered new pump & on measuring it against the old one there was 4 mm difference in length of rotor spindle so the old one was just kissing the distributer drive shaft assembly so had a lucky escape engine was ment to be recon? Old pump must be ment for something else? Ps why did triumph fit so many sump bolts?

Hello T2000,

because the sump is a light pressing with a flimsy flange.

Over the years several times I saw these differences in spindle length, also with the 4 cylinders. Often 1/4". So beware. Always measure.

Very nice and true remark about the flimsy flange.. :D
