I have a spare Triumph 6 cylinder engine that I wish to use while rebuilding the car's original engine which has a BW 65 but I am unsure if the spare engine is a 2000 or a 2500.
It has a 219016 cylinder head and 8 & 5/16"pushrods, which suggests it is a 2500. However, it has a BW 35 auto fitted rather than the BW 65 auto that was fitted to 2500 engines. The previous owner of the engine said the BW 35 fitted to this motor was the original gearbox fitted. Did 2500's come out with BW 35 autos?
The hand stamped engine number is: MK7049HEBW

Re: Identifying Triumph 6 cylinder engine
MK engines are apparently Australian AMI built 1973 (before they were available in the UK) 2500 TC.

Hi Caleb.
MK blocks were 2.5's fitted to 73 - 75 2500TC's in Australia before we started getting MM blocks.
Yes BW 35's were unfortunately fitted to 2.5's! They had a cooler fitted as standard as opposed to the 2000. The change to the 65 happened at the same time as the change to HS6 carbs and 2500TC grille badge etc.
Hope that helps.
