A friend has a S1 XJ6 and has a new programmable distributor on it. You use a laptop to set the advance curve (at about 10 discrete points) and the load it into the distributor. I helped him set his up. We used the book figures as a start and although we didn't go any further, it should be possible to then tweak individual points to optimise the advance curve 'cos as Tony says, the original curve was set for fuels long since unavailable.

When I get around to the PI rebuild I shall be very tempted to go down this route. (Then I'd probably have a 41236 one spare Charles!)

Cheers,
Mike.

It's been years since I even thought about any of this so did a search.
This came up and thought it might be of interest.
