It has to be better than the asda value 20/50 doesnt it! I used it in my PI and the v8 without any bad effects. At least you get a full 5 litres of that too, and trade card applies if you can get one.

Hiya,

we always use Halfords oil and have never had any problems. Recommend it!

I've been using Halfords oil for years and tens of thousands of miles with no problems... Good stuff!

Unipart 20w50 is readily available from Partco, and Comma Motorway 20w50 is good value at around £10. They both come in full 5 ltr bottles, not 4 or 4.5 ltr like some modern oils. I have used both for a good few years without problems.
For more 'spirited' use, Valvoline do a 20w50 racing oil, but its about £30 for 5 ltr.

This is what I use in the PI and Stag. It's often available at a good discount from Euro Car Parts. It appears to improve the oil pressure a bit - whether that's a good thing or not is debatable!

Cheers,
Mike.

The spec of the oil you need depends on the materials it will come into contact with. For Triumph's I think the main shells are the items that need looking after. There are many additives put in (engineered) that help wear and tear. The one we need most is ZDDP (the short name version) which should be present in sufficient quantities. Recommendation is 1,500 parts. One of the Miller's range has this spec., but without my list to hand I can't say which one. Silkolene 20w50 has about 1,200 and Valvoline 20W60 (in my 2.5s at present) has 950. I only got the Valvoline as it was £17 quid a container.

I must find my list and post on-line for reference.

The problem is that formulations are changing all the time and obtaining the required info can be time consuming. A first time call or e-mail is o.k. but ignoring a stream of them is frustrating. I normally stick to the company(ies) that provide needed info quickly.

Ask who produces Halfords, ASDA own etc. how much ZDDP is in there!

I've bought some ZDDP addative which I add to any good quality oil that I can get cheaply.
