Early
last year, I replaced the worn out engine in my New Zealand assembled
2500S with a completely refurbished and balanced shortblock from a
2500PI. I did not install the petrol injection system, opting instead
to have the carburettors completely rebuilt. These are the HS6 model
specified with emission controls for the 2500TC/S in the Australian
market and come with the BDU needle. I was advised by the carburettor
mechanic that the needles would be fine for the new motor - having
driven the car for over a year now, I am not convinced.
The PI motor has a higher compression and a higher performance camshaft
which I believe requires richer needles to be installed, and I believe
this is borne out by the fact that the engine feels to be struggling at
higher revs in the higher gears.
The question is - has anyone on this forum performed the same conversion and found a needle type that is better suited?
What needles should I use?
