On the one occasion I removed the overhang, I didn't have a bench grinder so I used a coarse/fine carborundum stone. A long job but it did have the advantage of being easier to control.

Hello Alec,

It was many years ago, on my Mk1, and the indentations may not have been too deep. It worked anyway, so I was happy.

David.

New rocker assembly fitted this evening, lovely!!

Makes a nice whirring sound now instead of the old clatter and it seems to run better now that the valves are opening fully. It's even better if you remember to re-fit the vacuum advance pipe..............

I got sidetracked by beer so a final check and adjust tomorrow and it's back on the road. :)

It's impossible to judge the hardness of the components, the proof of that will be in their durability but the standard of machining etc. looked fine.

Yes .... grinding away the sides of the rocker tip would be a race modification, and I would reassemble the rockers in the same order. Mark them 1-12 with a Pental correcting pen. For general reconditioning I would say carefully grind the face, either side around where the valve has indented, not touching the actual rubbing surface. This will enable to measure accurate gaps. It would be essential if fitting a new shaft as each rocker tip usually has a very slightly different contact area, so may need a wider tip - any indent would be a problem.
