You'll need a crane with a very high lift if you don't remove the bonnet..........
Can you get hold of some lifting eyes? They bolt to the block.

True - stupid question. It's late here
I can try. Do they attach anywhere in particular?
Last time I removed a straight 6 from a GT6 I just roped it either end of the block. But that didn't need to be lifted so high so it seemed less precarious...

Take the inlet manifold off, complete with carbs so they don't get damaged, this will also give you a bit more 'wriggle' room!
Remove the bonnet, as you suggested and then, if there are no lifting eyes, make up an endless sling from a length of strong rope, or better still, beg or borrow a webbing sling and go down one side of the engine, under the sump pan and back up the other side.
Take care when lifting the engine out, get an assistant if you can, and obviously don't stand below a suspended load !!

It's unusual that there are no lifting eyes. I've never had a Triumph engine without them.
They should be bolted to the block - in case you have missed seeing them, the front one is by the water pump housing and exhaust manifold, and the rear one is smaller on the opposite side by the bulkhead insulation pad.
