You mean there is a space between the top of the radiator and the underside of the bonnet, so the radiator could have gone about 2-3 inches higher if the filler had been fitted say on an elbow at the side with the cap level with the radiator top?
Re: Radiator cap mod
If you mean that there is a gap between the radiator and the front vertical panel, the UK cars are flush at that point. My Oz 1971 PI had this flush arrangement and a mechanical fan only, and did not have trouble even when in Darwin. That included the PI system!!

Here is a photo of the gap I am taking about, it would appear it may not be on the UK cars it leaves about 12mm between the radiator and the front panel.Alec wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2018 9:35 amHello Bernard,
"The supplementary is:- Apart from allowing clearance for the radiator cap is there another reason why the radiator has a space between it and the bulkhead?"
I don't understand what clearance you are talking about, can you explain further or show a picture?

Re: Radiator cap mod
Is it an oem uk radiator with flanges for the factory fitting? At this stage of the game the rad could have been replaced a few times. Ditto the flanges. I let the radiator manufacturer/re-furb company of Unipart do my Stag radiator. The replaced flanges were not even close - whoever did it obviously had never used a straight rule in their life.
