LeJog in a Triumph

#1 Post by Charles H » Thu Sep 29, 2016 2:59 pm

I have again entered the Lands End to John O'Groats Rally in my Mk1 rally car. It takes place on the first weekend of December and is known as the hardest rally in Europe! The car and I have done this event twice before, the last in 2011 where we achieved a Gold Medal, one of only two! This year I have Richard Lambley as my navigator, but first I need to repair the car, 'cos we broke it last weekend doing a night rally on the Romney Marsh. The inner and outer wings have sort of split......oops! I also have an annoying high rev misfire to cure before we set off. The details of the event can be found at http://www.heroevents.eu/Events/lejog/

Split?
Parted company or worse, do you have any pics Charles?
That sounds very bad.

Will get Phil to help me put up a photo. He is back on Saturday. I'm not clever enough!! The inner and outer have separated by nearly an inch. More independent suspension than it was designed with!

Colin
This is the problem. The first image shows the outer bowl pulled away from the inner. The underseal has not come off, it has pulled that distance apart.
The second two show that the inner arch has not only pulled in, but moved up slightly. Hopefully it will all move back into position and be re-attached and seam welded up.

Car now welded back together successfully. Also seam welded the other side as well as a precaution. Preparation well under way and due a 12 car shakedown tomorrow morning to try and iron out any gremlins.
In two weeks time we will be under way in the South West on our long haul north. Can't wait. We are in a class with an Alfa Giulia Sprint, an Alfa GTV and a Mk1 Lotus Cortina. Details and updates on the website http://heroevents.eu/event-type/le-jog/

Thanks Mike.
The 12 car shakedown has been successfully completed with a 3rd over all. The car behaved well and subject to a check during the week, only needs the wheels and tyres changing for the winter set, the rear brakes adjusting up and undersealing the rear arches. I am sure some cleaning and double checking of everything will keep me busy prior to the journey to Lands End on Thursday week.

Undersealing complete, rear brakes adjusted up and winter wheels and tyres bolted on. Just about ready for the off next week.

Carrying a pair with me now!!!!! Hopefully will not break anything too critical! I still have the towel you supplied wrapping the caliper up in in the car!
That was the most expensive borrowed caliper in the world! Cost me £400 carriage
