Mk1 Manual PI project for sale in France

#1 Post by tony.rayns » Fri May 27, 2016 6:35 am

Mk1 PI for sale east of Paris - albeit a left hooker but only 600 euro's! The beauty of life in France for a French car is that there is no salt during the winter.

https://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/972565506.htm?ca=2_s

It's been stored for the last 20 years but coughed and spluttered when trying to start it.

Not may left now and I think a buyer could be looking at £500 to get it back to Blighty.

Could be a decent project this  ?

'Tis not 'just' a Mk1 2000 ........... but by the look of it a Mk1 2.5 PI ......

Either registration date is wrong or someone has been doing some 'creative' re-badging but I doubt it. Bonnet badge, PI badge in middle of rear bumper(?), and of course the PI steering wheel

All 'facelift' Mk1's from approx 1967 and all Mk1 PI's had the centre bumper badge Ted - obviously with either 2000 or 2500 depending on the model.
It looks pretty straight (shame about the wing, but in the overall scheme of things...) and genuine. Good price too. I could be tempted if I wasn't worried about being castrated in my sleep if I bought another Triumph.....

Looks nice - and I'm in France at the moment! Wrong side of the country though. If it was closer I think I'd really be in trouble from SWMBO!

Cheers,
Mike.

Let us know how you get on!
Was interested myself (not to the extent of planning to make the trip though!), but the main problem was the steering wheel has been put on the wrong side...... :D

I was tempted also, especially as we're in France at the moment. Might be an interesting project for over here!

Good luck and as already said, keep us informed.

Cheers,
Mike.

Car is no longer advertised.
In the end I decided not to do it as I have "enough" projects (my wife explained this to me... 8) ).
I did pass the link on to "a colleague in crime" who was also very interested though.
Right now I am not sure he was the buyer, we did not have contact last week.
If I k now more I will report back!

One of my other projects is the Herald convertible which is "iconic" within Club Triumph Holland as it was of my late dear friend Henk who was a very active and well known member of our club.
The Herald was (and is) in a poor state as I got it after serving him for more then 40 years and I think the car did more then 700.000 km's..

Last week I found out that the main chassis members are bad and as we wanted this to be a "low budget" restoration I didn't feel good about this..
BUT! then a friend came up with an English herald convertible for sale in Groningen (also 230 km for me) for the elusive amount of 100 Euro's!!
Bought it, will retrieve it next weekend. Good hope that the chassis is good enough...

Be still interesting to know where this car ended up going....... After all, Mk 1 PI's (also in the fastest colour) are a rare beast these days....
