As is usual, it's a case of "put your money where your mouth is". For far to long our cars have worth more as a pile of spares than as a complete car. We all love those barn finds for a couple of hundred pounds, but if that's what we are prepared for a complete car, then that's what they are worth. We all know however that you can't buy a set of Pistons for that kind of money, so don't be surprised if s rare car is broken for spares.

Hello Ted,

those wings are cheap really, about one third of the price of a Jaguar Mk 2 wing, admittedly that is quite a big item and fairly complex but the demand is much greater I would guess, and Robey's have been making those for years?

There are very few classic cars that can be restored for a cost less than their value, I wouldn't like to add up what I've spent on mine, far more than I could realise, in the unlikely event that I would sell it.

Hi
Thank you for the info. Any idea when the wings would be available?

Cheers

Ian

Could not agree more Alec, it does annoy me when people say Lloyd's wings are too expensive when compared with similar sized ones from other cars they are of equivalent price or cheaper.

And with restorations it is really a 'labour of love' and expenditure gets lost in the enthusiasm. I have said this before but the money that I have spent, and will spend when it is finished, on AFH the Mk1 2000 is far in excess of its value ....... but what the hell, it is our (Steph and mine) car from when we first got together.

The thing is , when considering the cost of spare parts, there are perhaps three different types of owners:
Those who have owned their car for many years, and to whom availability is more important than cost.
Then there are those who have owned several, or possibly many of our cars over a long period of time. They would rather replace the car than spend a lot of money on it, although availability of cars is now beginning to push them into the first group, however they are unlikely to be prepared to spend large sums on restoration while there are still cars that can easily be "tarted up"
The third group have no particular loyalty to the marque and will simply buy cars that will provide cheap transport, and sell on again when repairs become necessary. It is only when this third group are priced out of the market that major restoration will become worthwhile.

You know I paid in excess of £5k for my Mk 2 PI Estate ten years ago. ...so the value is there for a decent example and it now has an agreed value of £10k
