Re: Barn find
Yes - highly likely a tax exempt re-plate job as it has all the badging/appearance/specification of an 'S'. Someone could get their fingers burned and lose the registration of the car if DVLA pick up on it.t2000 wrote:Item no 121256398859 barn find 2000 or is it a 25s overall tidy car are they aging a laugh or what starting price £1500 looks to me a 2.5 s on a k plate tax dodge?
If it had been cleaned and was reasonably sound I would suggest £500 tops though a blow up of the one picture suggests wheel arches starting to get scabby plus other things. £1500 buys a complete tested running car needing further work - we must not undersell our cars or they will not be worth repairing and end up being scrapped off.

I'd love to talk up the value of our cars, but putting a dodgy barn find up for £1,500 is rather, erm, "hopeful" at best

The £1500 refereed to a good useable honest MOT car ...... not a dodgy overpriced 'barn find', or should it have been someones abandoned restoration/possible registration bodge .....

Re: Barn find
With the amount of corrosion that you can see on this car, all in difficult & expensive places to repair, plus all the corrosion that will be elsewhere that you can't see, then its identity crisis, is it an S trying to be a tax exempt Mk2, or a long time ago attempt to make an S from an early Mk2 ? Never thought I'd say this, but maybe its best bet is to go out in a blaze of glory as a banger racer

Re: Barn find
Says registered in 1977!!!! even has the late rubber inserts in the steering wheel! An S without doubt, late seats with headrests, late type seatbelts, S wheels, S grille and therefore the later light panel with the extra grille tabs, are the suspension shackles the later ones that drop further down? BUT early bumpers and not a colour that I think the S was produced in? Ice blue?

Re: Barn find
Looks to be Ice Blue (116) as you say, Charles, and not a very common colour on the late Mk2's, but I do remember a director at work getting a brand new R regd 2500S in ice blue in 1977. There was also a N regd facelift PI in ice blue there as well. Very nice colour

Why are you all so negative?
Obviously its a '71 car thats been partialy restored using parts from a 1977 2.5S and then been left to rot for 20 years. Its a bargain!
This car is a barn find and is partially restored
It needs 2 parts of welding and a complete paint job
Its a solid car underneath
in boot along with many spare badges
Overall tidy car
