I must be just lucky, I've had at least 14 or 15 2000/2.5's since 1976 and I cant remember in all that time ever even changing a bulb in any of the indicator repeaters, I've never had to take a lens off for any reason. And they still work on both sides on both cars :)

Without labouring the point, wasn't the NKC part no. only a replacement number when many of the 6 digit part numbers were replaced by 3 letters and numbers, i.e. 150924 became GCP195? I'm certain the actual lens was the same, but had a new style of part number. I still have only seen three types of lenses, and I'm sticking to that!!!!!

Finally found that CW article last night (February 2005 edition of Six Appeal) and happy to admit that it too quotes only three types of moulding, i.e.
  • Mk1 PFL: flat face, open top
  • Mk1 FL / early Mk2: flat face, closed top
  • Mk2 FL: curved face
It therefore seems logical that one of the later part numbers was indeed a supercession, but not sure which, i.e. was the final (curved face) lens design introduced with the 1974 facelift or before then?

I recall that perhaps three or four years ago Chris Witor was canvassing members to gauge the level of interest in having these remanufactured. He was collecting e-mail addresses, but in never heard anything further so presume that there was not sufficient interest . I think he was proposing to do the late Mk1/early Mk2 flat ones. Both lenses on my 1966 Mk1 are cracked/damaged at the edges and one has been replaced by its previous owner with the later curved type. I would certainly be interested in purchasing the flat type if they were remanufactured.

Yes I was looking at the ones on my Mk1s and thinking the same thing.

I'll have a word with Chris and see how things stand. As you say late type late Mk1 would have to be the ones to go for at the moment I would think - probably a reasonable number of curved type around at the moment so not necessary yet.

I'll speak to Chris and maybe do a poll on the two Fora.

Luckily they're small and very simply designed. It should be pretty straight forward to produce a cheap nested* injection moulding tool in aluminium and get a batch run out.
