Seat Diaphrams

#1 Post by mikew » Tue Mar 12, 2013 9:24 am

Progress report as of 12th March.

Although I cannot confirm prices at present as we are awaiting a formal quotation from the proposed manufacturer, I can say that if matters proceed with him as discussed we will be able to supply and sell these for less cost than a Stag replacement Diaphram from the established Dealers in Stag parts.

The quote is due from the manufacturer within the next 7 - 10 days.

The price is volume dependant because we need to write the tooling costs off against the manufactured parts, so the more we can sell the lower the price becomes.

We have a respected Trader on board too, who also wants stock.

We will shortly publish a price and invite expressions of interest. If we can get enough commitment, we will then be asking for money.

Timescales on this will be dependant upon the volume of interest and how quickly members commit. My current view, which I have yet to discuss with Ted and Steve is to wait to order until after Star 90, as I am intending to affix "flyers" (if allowed) advertising the Spares Group to all Big Saloons parked at the venues, and it will also allow an opportunity to publish the prices in the following editions of Six Appeal and Club Torque.

Manufacture and tooling time is approx 8 weeks from order, so plenty of time to save your money !

Comments please

I don't think there will be any problem with leaving some fliers with us on the Register stand Mike, it will give people visiting us a chance to find out about the spares group and firm prices on a part (if possible) will show that it isn't 'pie in the sky'.

Club Triumph are also having a parking section at Gaydon on the 19th May as their national day, so a chance for those attending who don't use the forums (and don't read their club magazine!) to find out about this.

A sample of the companies product to show prospective purchasers may be good too.

I'm sure we will talk before STAR90 anyway.

Hello Mike,

when will you be able to start taking subscriptions from members as I would imagine some funds in the organisation's coffers would be handy?

We are just waiting for the bank. It's not simple anymore to start an account

Funds would be nice but expenditure isn't that big at present so the committee are happy to fund things for now and we want members to see any money is spent on parts development so far as possible

However when we are ready we will not be slow in asking for money

Great to hear the diaphrams are getting closer to being produced. The ones on my car were OK about 5 years ago but I haven't sat in it since !
Hopefully I will be able to get some cash together to purchace a pair to keep in stock.

Just out of interest are the new ones going to be standard rubber or can something longer lasting be used ? Having said that my ones have lasted about 40 years so the rubber used by Triumph hasn't done bad.

Excellent.

Just FWIW I'll be wanting three-off as soon as they're available.

Me too - the driver's seat has collapsed to the point where I'm almost sitting on the floor!

There was talk of having an "interested parties" list at STAR 90 Gaydon for the seat diaphams.

Is this still planned?

Seeing as I have too many big Triumphs.... :P I want some!
