Finally picked the car up yesterday. The prolonged drive home helped me analyse the car a little more.

The knock/clonk is when you come off the gas into overrun, so I agree mostly likely a U/J.

The accelerator pedal seems to go down about 2” before the carbs open, a quick visual check didn’t reveal anything obvious - need to investigate further - any tips?

As previously stated, there is a slack point at dead ahead or if you go from left to right or vice verse.

On the good side. The old girl moves along nicely, no smoke on acceleration or overrun, the overdrive works fine - no big clunk as it engages.

The interior trim is OKish, but the drivers seats feels like it needs sorting out, it’s not exactly collapsed, just tired and uncomfortable after 20 minutes or so driving. All the lacquer on wood trim is shot and weirdly all the knobs on the window winders are broken off and the mechanisms are stiff.

The headlights are the original sealed beams - they will get changed for halogen H4/H1s with relays.

Any advice welcome.

Great news! Show us some photos!!!!!! The seat is probably just the diaphragm, available from Chris Witor and others. Andy will be able to help with the S dash section which is literally a swop, plug in and all done. Keep us up to date with your progress.

I can’t seem to post pics, I get a message that my pics are too large, but despite asking, no-one can tell me what the maximum size is - is it a secret to stop people from posting pics? I can resize to anything that someone will specify, I understand about big pics using up loads of hosting memory, I run several websites myself.

An image size of 392px x 294px works for me.

Looks a tidy saffron saloon you have there. Look forward seeing future posts on your project. Looks like you managed to upload a larger picture than mine :(
