The head is no fitted, water pump fitted, manifolds test fitted, no sign of any interference, will fully fit them tomorrow. Awaiting return of the fuel pump so I can progress the fuelling system.

Today I fitted the rocker shaft & adjusted the tappets, then I moved to the rear of the car and removed the fuel tank. With my car being a PFL model, it had a smaller tank than the later estates, I wanted to fit the later tank. In order to get the larger tank in, I had to remove the O/S floor support bar, this will be replaced by a removable bar, I also had to remove the inboard support bracket, this will be replaced by another bracket further along the axle tunnel. Unfortunately my limited testing of this tank didn't spot a slight weep, I will have to remove it and get the tank repaired, at least I have proved that it is a viable solution, the spare tyre fits fine and won't interfere with the Lucas Pump, PRV or filter (latter isn't fitted in pic, will be mounted higher up)

Cutting a long story short, I now have a running 2.5PI setup in my Mk1 2000 Estate. The car isn't roadworthy yet, there are a few things I still need to address, I want to fit copper fuel lines, I am not happy with the nylon pipe running close to the exhaust. The PAS pipes are weeping, will try putting some sealant on the threads. I need to fit Mk2 throttle pedal and bleed brakes. The car still has 4:11 diff fitted, acceleration should be brisk, phase two of this work sees a 3:45 diff & CV shafts being fitted.

After what feels like a long time, the Estate drove out of my garage as a 2.5 PI car, it’s not running quite right yet but the major work is done.
