KNG 59N - Project finally getting attention

Finally I get around to re-starting this post. I opted for a new start,rather than resurrect an old post. Firstly,i wanted to put up a few pics of the car before it's longer than anticipated hibernation,but these pics were taken too big,and although help was given we still cant seem to downsize to post up. So I've cheated,and had to take pictures of pictures :roll: hence a little blurry. These were taken circa 2007/8 :

For those that may be new to the forum since,i purchased the car in 2006 from an elderly chap who had brought the car at 18 months old (yes,he had owned it for 29 years) from Mann Egerton in Norwich,which was their demonstator - it is a very early S Estate. I paid strong money for the car at that time,but having already viewed one or two - ahem - less desirables,i thought it a good buy. It turned out it was ok,he had washed it and polished it,but had done nothing else. So after a short while I decided it needed a good sorting out. Time,offspring and cashflow extended it's hibernation. Work has been slow for the last 5-6 years.But now I am in a position to get things moving on. So here I am!

Basically I reversed the car up onto ramps. Bolted timber chocks into the garage floor against the front wheels,and backed up with 4" blocks in front of them. Released the handbrake,nothing gave...jacked up the trailing arms raising the wheels from the ramps...removed wheels,removed ramps...and then removed everything else.

For the wider eyed it may be noted I still have the main floor pans to finish painting :roll: But this rear end for me was the biggest job. On limited time and space etc....

Why don't you do a blog? Easy to set up. I use blogspot. Then you can put full res pictures up and do a detailed log of the work. We can then just follow your link.
There is a thread on here called blog update to let us all know when you have updated it.

i'm sure noone will be bored, however many photos you show. A picture paints a thousand words and i for one find it fascinating to see the progress of a cars restoration, besides, we need stuff on here to maintain interest!,

Looking good Forkie. Pictures are good, yes. No-one will get bored for sure!

Mine also came from Mann Egerton, Norwich but in Sept '74. It's still in repair only about 3 miles from the original showroom location; yours has gone somewhat further!

Alan - firstly,as i am still playing catch up - may i congratulate you on a stunning 'find',and ultimately stunning rebuild. :mrgreen: ? not me... a blog? Mmmm. I am c**p with these things. Wife is 'ok',i am worse,hence the delays all the time,as i have to wait for when wife is free. We are not all computer buffs :roll: I'll see how things go...

As for pics and boredom,ok,if you want more,i'll post up more! I'll put some more up in a day or so...

Steve - I bought this from a guy in Diss ( you will know all about where Diss is :lol: ) . It hadn't done no more than a few hundred miles in the last 10 years when i bought it in '06 - and i bought it 'blind',having never drove an automatic in my life,nor never having drove ANY Triumph,let alone one of these,and i now had a 400mile+ trip to make leaving Diss at 2.30pm...in October...

The only thing i recall was after around 50 miles of steady driving she kicked out a double miss,out of the blue... and that was it. We did approx. 100 mile stints,with 20mins breaks. Got home at 01.15 in the morning (sunday) having left at 06.15am on the Saturday.It was a very long day.

She was not as good as i thought. She has cost a fortune in time and money. She is still no where near where i want her to be. But i would never give up or sell - am very attatched :wink:

Borrowed a 3/8 die last week to finally get around to cleaning up the threads on the diff studs which I did this afternoon. Where would we be without that kit. Did a stirling job. If there is one bit of hindsight advice I can give to anyone in the future that is about to drop their diff and that is to die the threads as much as possible BEFORE trying to undo the old nuts. I was lucky that I managed to save mine.But on removal I did take my time,a little at a time,undoing a bit then re-doing up again,then repeat process,and with plenty of lubricant.

Anyhow - with that done today and a lot of loose ends coming together of late i.e. new subframe shims delivered and various bolts back from the polishers I'm almost ready to start sticking it back together - save the trailing arms which are off to the shotblasters this week!!!
