All,
My Mk1 project car is now with Yorkshire Triumphs for the final assembly. There are still a few parts that I will need. Looks like I have secured some rear quarter light rubbers, I know they are hard to find right now. Can anyone advise what extra support bracketry is required when installing a j type overdrive in a Mk1.
The project has run well over the time frame I had originally in mind,-suppose to be completed by the national event in july,-fat chance!.

To install a J Type in a Mk1 you need longer hanging studs and spacers for the gearbox cross member (body to crossmember end) + the J Type mounting adaptor between the metalastik mount and the overdrive unit.

The crossmember and the mount is common for all saloons/estates.

All,
Well, its been a while since last update.Where have the last few months gone?.I did manage CTs 10CR in the TR5 which was completed without drama , yet again!,-next time i will be in the saloon!
The Mk1 has been with Yorkshire Triumphs for the past two months, most of the external trim, light fittings etc have been fitted. At last the engine has been completed and successfully delivered last weekend, i will provide details of the engine spec in due course.All the heavy stuff + interior is now with them and just needs to be carefully fitted.I decided to go for some Alfa 147 seats in beige leather which scrubbed up well and should be an improvement on the original chairs. I will, however be keeping the originals, some of the stitching has come adrift but will repaired, remarkably the leather facings have no cracks , and in the future will be well fed with leather feed, an attached photo or 2 illustrates the new and old.
Not sure on a final completion date but am hopeful before the end of the year,

The inspiration to create my view of a Mk1 came from what i saw in books of the cars completing long distance rallies in the sixties. Following on from the research and completing the 2011 CT 10CR i really liked the look of the big saloons as prepared by Tim Bancroft ,James Shackford and Lester French. These cars were pretty much what i was looking for, though it did take a while to find the right example ..
We all have our own view of what is the right look and spec , for me , thats what makes it interesting.For me it is about the combination of taking the best of the original but adding mods which, for me, improve the car eg the front seats, the exterior lights, lsd and 2.5 engine.

The basic 2.5 engine was provided by Tom Key.My local engineer, Mike Tarr of Ratt Racing has hopefully produced a powerfu,balancedl but reliable engine, it will be running on a pair of SUs but i may still go for triples, we shall see. I've run triple carbs on the TR5 for seven years and 40k miles without drama, sowill not be going the PI route.I will advise precise spec shortly.
Not sure of precise completion date yet but probably before the end of the year. Six months later than expected, but well worth waiting for!,

All,
A brief update on the Mk1 project car. Yorkshire Triumphs have cracked on and have now installed the engine and most of the running gear. Exhaust system is complete and the twin SUs have been fitted, an initial start up is due soon. I've attached a few photos showing progress. The front seats, from an Alfa 147 were tricky to fit, but seem to work well, even the shade of beige is similar to the door cards and they appear v comfortable.Wheels are 5.5j TR6 shod with vredestein 185/70/15 painted in gunmetal grey.

All,
Feels like it has been an eternity,in fact just over 18 months, the green beasty has returned to Devon, largely under its own steam. It sure is a completely different car from the one i collected from deepest Cornwall all those months ago. I will be putting together more photos and greater detail of the cars spec in near future possibly,if i can find the time, by way of a blog. In the meantime the following photos will give you an idea of the finished car. Its fair to say that the boys at Yorkshire Triumphs have done a great job putting the car together, the car is sharp and well balanced with really good handling. The engine, of course ,is still bedding in with revs limited to 3k for now..,
