Sounds like you need to change the thread title, Ted - you obviously now have a PI that will properly...
Enjoy!

Re: The PI that would not properly
Yes Jonathan you are probably right ...... or is that tempting fate
And yes Charles good to meet up with you and your Steph and the family. Next time you are down this way perhaps we could meet up again - may not have the Land Crab then as I will be sorting a few problems asap and then actively trying to sell it (sadly) Mind you some of the money will go towards the restorations of my other Land Crab and Triumphs. If you bring your caravan you could park in the drive surrounded by a couple of Range Rovers, Land Crabs, Triumphs etc etc ............!
Just got back home from my trip and did a final check of fuel consumption. Total mileage over the past 3 days was about 400. After posting my original 'report' and 30mpg I had to make a 50 mile round trip into London, and on the return home had a typical M25 crawl for 25 miles and then another for about 5 miles around Aylesbury. This rather messed up the final figure and it ended up at 27 mpg for the whole trip (done on an accurate refill of the tank). Even the diesel Land Rover 90 was only marginally better than that!
The car is not running 100% - still some slight missing at times and needs fettling - but the car is perfectly useable as a daily driver (and is as comfortable as I always remembered with the Mk1) so I can get out and enjoy being 'Triumphant' again
Thanks to Jonathan Lewis, Alan Chatterton, Ken Bryant, Brian Chrimes, Dave Marshall and Steve Knight for advice given by e-mail or word of mouth. The original problem first listed by the previous owner about 'Converting a PI to Carbs' has been sorted and from now on should be simply (?!) the usual problems of maintaining a PI, and shows the value of the Forum in helping to ensure cars are kept going and not scrapped unecessarily

Re: The PI that would not properly
Hi All
Final report because I have decided that I must be practical and now that the car is pretty well sorted and saved from oblivion that I must sell it on. Apart from the rescue jobby, the car has given me a chance to get to grips with owning and running (and enjoying) a PI, my previous experience being 5 years during the 1990s with the Mk1 2000 period 'rally replica' which I now intend to build into a proper detailed replica of the 1964/64 Group 3 cars because none of these exist.
I have a 1973 35000 mile PI saloon in the pipeline which has been vandalised and lost its identitity that I can rebuild into my estate to make a tax exempt PI which is what I have always wanted, and with that available I don't need to down the V8 conversion route although that would have been fun to do. I have my historic Land Crab to rebuild and the Mk1 which also needs to be rebuilt ....... 'too may projects and not enough time' (despite retirement) to quote Jonathan Lewis.
The car is now a very sound 1974 PI (one of the last PFLs - 300 from the end of production) with an extensive service record since 1998. It just needs tidying of wheelarch returns, rear quarter panels and bonnet hinge panel to make it a VERY nice car, with PI system now working and new/nearly new suspension and steering, stainless sports exhaust plus extensive work done during the past 7000 miles on the body - all actual and potential problems should have been resolved.
I am open to sensible offers to reflect the condition of the car and the work I put in to sort it out ....... and that the money will help fund my other projects with only a pension now to support my cars.
Sorry Allen if I should not be putting this 'advert' here but want to give someone on the Forum first chance before I ebay the car and advertise in Six Appeal.
