To revive an unseen previous post, but have now due to Auto issues  I love my Auto. This was the first Automatic i had ever driven, and my first 2000, and when i purchased KNG in 2006 i had to learn fast as i had to drive it back from Norfolk to Cornwall overnight, in the dark, the car a complete unknown. I have issues with it currently but as the car is so original, and it behaved so well that night, i am determined not to throw it away like so many others and fit MOD. It has to stay Auto, and i will try my best :D
Regards,Nige
I don’t mind auto cars per se, my moderns have been auto for 15 yrs now, the BW35 isn’t great though, I had my Stag converted to ZF and it transformed the car, a much better high speed performance.

Theee best car ive ever owned,a good few years ago now mind was the Vectra 2.5 V6 estate in manual. As this is a Triumph Forum, and not a Vauxhall Forum, i will end that here. BUT the Triumph 2.5 auto is a completely different beast. For its day , and its time, i wish i was there !
For instance, the Triumph seats are so comfortable. and im not on my own there.... what gives with this Alfa 156 seat conversion... :?: :?:

I've currently got a 1998 2.5 V6 Vectra auto and can confirm it's lots of fun :)

Had both MOD and auto cars in the past.
My MK1 Pi was auto and on the second day of ownership on the way to BMC Show the flexiplate went. I got a NOS replacement that lasted about 2 years but this went on the way back from Stoneleigh show. I then fitted a Chris Witor reinforced flexiplate.
For the above reasons I prefer MOD to auto on the MK1. Saying that, I used to manually change gears on my MK1 PI saloon and once on the TSSC Mile Of Triumph event I pulled away from my m8 in his tuned MOD TR6 and he couldn't catch me :D . You can also get an adaptor kit that can add overdrive to the autos.

Might be wrong after 40 years of the demise of Triumph but was not the BW35 box for the USA market on the insistence of "Kas" Kastner as it was lowered geared. Nothing I have read since gives a definite fitting of each BW model for a particular market. By that I mean BW65's were going to be fitted for all markets during the held meetings of the board. Thus, if USA was to be BW35 (and that was thought to be THE market) then BL/Triumph agreed to the change.

However, does that mean BW65 for the UK and other markets? Don't know. Perhaps the archivist at the SOC might have better info.

Yep, can't beat a auto for cities with high density traffic. A Swedish experiment (maybe 40+ years ago) stated that manual vehicles exerted 80% more stress on the human than an auto!

I really didn't like the BW35 I had in a Stag, the RPM was too high at motorway speeds, not great for a Grand Tourer really, I had a ZF 4sp auto fitted and it transformed the car, a much more satisfying experience.

Well, as I posted. BL meetings minutes suggest BW35 for USA market. Had to beat the Mercs from the lights. The history then becomes clouded. Did Rest of World market also become BW35 until more BW65 units available? Dunno, but if your Stag was sold UK market then it "should" have been BW65. I've only been in one auto Stag and it went like S^*t of a Shovel. Didn't think to ask or check if it was 35 or 65. Anyways, the difference at motorway speeds was not in "a different league".

Of course a 4-speed box would in all likelihood be better than a BW65. And I would guess a 6 or 7 speed would be even better. GM 3-speed Autoglyde (?) still in a league of its own.
