My car is very difficult to get in 1st and 2nd gear when cold, once warmed up all is ok .
Anyone got any ideas what is going on, as this has only just started happening?
thanks in advance

Assuming that the clutch is set up and working correctly, this is normal.
Facelift cars, (74 on) had a longer gear lever to try to overcome the problem, but unfortunately, that didn't help matters much.

It can't be normal if this has only just started hapening.
Something must have changed, and the usual cause of difficult engagement of 1st or 2nd is the clutch not releasing fully. This could be adjustment, or sticky deposits on the clutch plate causing it to drag a bit, or a worn carpet or underfelt catching under the pedal.
Alternatively it could be the gearlever location pins out of adjustment in the knuckle joint at the bottom of the lever, causing slack movement to mean the lever doesn't move over fully.
Is it the correct gearbox oil? Try changing it?

Make sure that the curved washer on the gearlever is well greased. This has to slide under the 'cap' on the gearbox casing extension.

Mind you, this would probably affect all gears!

Cheers,
Mike.
