Hi All, just seen this on eBay
Described as a Triumph 2000 block but I’d have thought a Standard Vanguard six? Help my curiosity please.

Engine identification
Re: Engine identification
The front plate on an Standard Vangard was different to ours relative to the engine mounting, but unfortunately there isnt one on the engine in the photos.
SV engine numbers start with the prefix 'V' so I doubt it is a SV block.

Re: Engine identification
Hi Johnny,
It's the engine mountings cast into the block (3 off rather than the 4 off for Vitesse/GT6 etc.) and the crankcase breather on the block behind the fuel pump that make me wonder. (Is the breather there on the 1600 Vitesse engine I don't think so but it been too long for me to remember)
According to the Standard Motor Club Website commission number W2627 is a Vanguard six Vignale build Christmas 1960

Anyone know any more?

Re: Engine identification
The numbers you mentioned are commission numbers - I am certain that I got my info from the Official Standard Workshop manual online (like the beige Triumph loose leaf manual), but I cant find it now! It stated the V numbers were engine numbers, so I wonder whether the engine numbers followed similar letters and numbers to the commission numbers.
I would perhaps ring one of the officials in the Standard Motor Club who should be able to clarify whether it is a SV block.
Are you actually after a 6 cylinder block?

Re: Engine identification
I don’t need or want another block at the moment, both my cars have been rebuilt and I’ve a spare CP engine. It’s was the engine mounting castings on the block that intrigued me as I’ve never seen them like that before and that got me thinking what has it come out of.
The block is advertised for 2000, Vitesse Gt6 but it’ll not fit a Vitesse or Gt6 with those mountings
