So this mark 1 is up for sale literally just around the corner from me ,( something that is unheard of down here, as in one for sale) at sensible money. Ive never owned a mk 1, or a manual ( alas it is a non overdrive ). I seem to recall some write up about this car at some point, in recent years - but cannot recall what or where. But i am really tempted - even though i still have not got KNG sorted properly, the lure of these cars, and driving one every day still really appeals. My question is, what info can anyone give regarding this car, checking up on the mot info it is a tad faint in recent years, some welding in the past etc. I may go for a peak at the weekend....

That car was was once owned by Register member Brian Millington who lived near Wrexham at the time. He has since emigrated I believe. He bought it in 2002 and then used it for a few years before he sold it in 2006. It features in the Members Cars section on the Register website. In the write up he states 'he found it was in a terrible state' and after 'much welding later' used it as his everyday car until 2006. Brian did come to a few shows in the North West with it, although he mainly displayed his lovely Mallard Mk2 PI estate.
If you Google it, it was advertised in 2020 for £1,500 as a project, later reduced to £1000.
Probably worth a look, but I wouldn't expect it to be overly pretty underneath depending of course on the quality of the previous welding repairs. Whether it's worth the asking price.....?

As per John's comments, Brian did own the car originally and numerous welding been done on it. Article feature on it in Six Appeal this year when previous owner ( didn't own it long) before current owner owned it.
I believe it was MOD too at one point.
IMO, the asking price slightly over and would think 4K more realistic but saying that, MK1 car's are getting harder to find and especially one that is in good condition and on the road.
A car requiring sill work etc will command £1500 and that is if you can locate one.

Mmm. Taking into account the two replies i have had, and the no response from the seller regarding viewing at the weekend, maybe i should pass on it then...... a shame, to be honest, as for several years now i have been tempted to ditch the ongoing 5/6 year old modern and grab a ' tatty but driveable 2000' and i maybe thought this may be it. It kind of looks ' well used, but still useable', if that makes sense. But for me, loads of rot/ patch on patch alah a video of rural Cornwall from the air does not really do it for me. I think i am too late to find what i am looking for, although i will not give up just yet !
