My new Mk 1

#1 Post by Joe Wright » Sat Jul 02, 2022 5:40 am

Hello everyone.
I am lucky enough to have picked up a Mk 1 2000. The history with the car is incredible with letters to the previous owner from the register and magazine articles about the car as it was one of the earliest left on the road. It is number 640 and a 1963 car which I believe are quite rare. Reg is APG751B.
I need to do some paintwork but it looks like a lovely car. Ill get some pictures up of the car and the letters from the register and magazine articles as soon as I can.
All the best
Joe

Looks a very genuine early Mk1! Gunmetal suits the Mk1 in my opinion (somewhat biased though!). Look forward to reading more about it!

Thankyou.
I really like the colour. Having polished it yesterday though I am going to save up and have the whole car resprayed, will be keeping the original colour. Need to find someone decent to do that preferably in the Hertfordshire area or reasonably close if anyone has any suggestions.
As an early car it has a two tone dash which is a bit different. I like it.
The car came with folders and folders full of history from 1967 when the then owner Oliver Sanderson had it. He went on to own it for 39 years.
Within the history is a letter from Alan Crussell dated 1996 who I believe was the director/secretary of the register, apologies if I have got that wrong, to Oliver Sanderson talking about getting the early 63 cars together.
There are also pictures of Oliver Sanderson with the car that his children have wrote on from 1978. Id love to get in touch with them and let them see the car again once I've got it back to its former glory. Will look into that.
So far I am very happy. All the mechanicals seem to be working well for now so just a case of restoring the bodywork when funds allow and then getting out to some events.
All the best
Joe

That is a very honest example of an early mk1, which reminds me of my first T2000 back in the 70s, very similar with the twin spots and the same colour (gunmetal?)
I generally preferred mk2's at one time, but I'm appreciating mk1's much more these days!
We have a resident Register mk1 guru Lee who has a record of surviving mk1 cars, I will draw his attention to your post.
